Baraja: "We want to dedicate the victory to the victims and those affected by the 'DANA'"
The coach previews the game against Real Betis
Valencia CF coach José Bordalás talked to the media following a positive 2-0 win in the derby against Villarreal CF.
Have you seen the change that you wanted from the team?
We're very happy. Besides the result, which was hugely important, getting a win today was very big because of various reasons. We have a big game ahead. Above all, it was important because of the attitude and behaviour of the team. This is what the Valencia CF fans want to see. This is what we all want to see: A team who give absolutely everything, who support each other, who interpret the play well and are able to manage the game. I want to thank the players, because they were exemplary, and the fans -because they were always behind the team. They deserve the performance, besides the result that we took.
Unai Emery complained about the fouls committed. Do you think is good, because it means that certain values are back?
I do not usually give my opinion on the words of a colleague. I have a great opinion of Unai. We all saw the game. It caught my attention that every time we passed the halfway line, they fouled us. We each see the game from a different prism. I think the referee was fantastic, and if time was wasted, he added on 9 minutes.
Besides the victory. How important is a clean sheet to you?
It was important to keep a clean sheet, stemming the hemorrhaging that we'd been suffering from in recent games. If you concede, as I've said in previous press conferences, it's hard to win. Today the team played tightly, were organised and interpreted things well. I can't remember a chance, besides the one that Cillessen saved, which means that the team were fantastic defensively. We were able to counter and bring the ball out. At times we maybe lacked the final ball and a little more calm with our transitions, but the team did a good job. Beyond the result, it was very important to keep a clean sheet.
How are the injuries that were suffered in the game?
Racic received a heavy knock from a Villarreal player in the second minute and could not continue. Thierry Correia wanted to help. It is not that we precipitated his reappearance, but he wanted to be included. He has some discomfort, but we are optimistic. Gabriel Paulista had some discomfort in his hamstring and will have to undergo tests. Then there are the usual knocks.
Do you feel supported by the club?
Yes, I have always felt supported. I have been supported at all times. At no time has there been any reproach. They know that I give everything, that I give my all for Valencia CF. I have felt supported even in the moments when there were bad results. I was sad for this magnificent fanbase, with the effort and work that the team have put in. This is the way forward and it is what must be non-negotiable -these habits of working until the end. We have won the prize of victory and we have done what needs to be done against opponents of Villarreal's potential.
You said that the team didn’t do what you asked against Mallorca. Is the plan for today something that will stay in place?
Each game is different and we prepare for every game looking at ourselves -and also trying to stop the opposition.
How do you think Hugo Guillamón performed?
He had a fantastic game. He helped out, he has covered, he was calm coming out with the ball and playing further forward. He maybe lacked some accuracy in some phases, but it was not easy because Villarreal press very well. I am very happy because he is a young player who is growing and had a great game -like the rest of his teammates.
